Shh…don’t mention the ‘v’ word01 Jan 2018
If you mention it, I’ll tune out. Nu ah! No thanks! Imma' be over here eating my eggs on toast and milky coffee, cheers. React the same to ‘v’ word? *coughvegancough* This one’s for you.
Now it’s not that I hate veg. In fact I love it. But I also love dairy. An ice-cream fiend whatever the weather. Glass of milk with my lasagne kinda gal (weird but delightful, trust me) I could continue with a litany of dairy-based deliciousness… mmm!
But… if you feed me vegan food without the ‘v word’ I don’t mind. I’d even go so far as to say I love it. There’s so much to be said for plant-based all stars. Veggies being the front and centre of a dish.

Also…my new housemates are vegan & vegetarian. So if I ever hope to have the warm communal ‘house dinner’ then I better buck up and be more open-minded. Food is meant to bring people together, not drive them apart. So based on my foodie ethos, I need to embrace the ‘v’ word …or at least part time.
Plus… eating more veg lessens our impact on the environment. Livestock emit more CO2, have a heavier impact on the soil, require more energy to process and transport etc.
Plus plus! ...a little additional reading revealed the health benefits that come from a vegan diet. Such as reduced PMS symptoms - ladies rejoice! Also reduced risk of diabetes and heart disease.
For the love of food!
For the love of the planet!
For the love of communal household dinners!
…it’s time to try vegan
Now I’m not organised enough to go all in. And it takes a bit of thought and planning to ensure all your vitamin levels remain at the right. So I am going to trial 3 days a week for the month of January. Let’s see what we can cook up! Or find on the Fair Food Forager app - now that makes ethical easy!
Follow along. Sign up. Give it a go. Even just one meal. It will probably surprise you.
Just don't mention the 'v' word and we'll be fine!
