5 Great Lessons from 201728 Dec 2017
2017 was a year of ups and downs. When some things were working out, others weren't at all. I am forced to put some thought into what I’m doing, how I'm living. It's not the first time I’ve looked at myself and nor should this end if things go ok. Stopping and checking yourself and how you respond, act, speak and listen brings great learning.
Sometimes you think you have it all covered, things work out. Your way is pretty smart after all. That way, that believing, it’s been entrenched for years, decade’s even. You’re a good person and mostly getting it right, right?
Until you don’t.
Do you say “Oh well, I did the best I can” and stick to your guns? Or do you start to think “Maybe I’m missing something?”
Perhaps you can open your mind and look at things differently. See the world like you never have before.
Think of how others hear you, not just how you hear yourself. And what do they really mean when they speak to you?
Really listen, think on it and respond thoughtfully, not with what pops into your head.
Can you turn off your mind and stop the stories. What do you know and what can you change?
Here are my 5 big lessons of 2017
1. To listen more than you speak
2. Put yourself in the other persons shoes (as they say), interpretation can confuse things so try to listen to what they really want you to hear. It takes practice because its not always clear.
3. Collaboration is better than competition
4. Practice gratitude
5. Swallow your pride and be vulnerable. Learn from being real and how it makes you feel.
